Journal post n.1: Trip to Sydney

15/7/22 - written by Laly Bigeard

Hey guys welcome to my very first journal post which is about Sydney and happened exactly 5 days ago.

I used to live in Sydney until I moved to Byron Bay 2 years ago.

Last week me and my family went on a trip to Sydney to visit friends and family, shops and bakeries. It was great fun + we went ice skating! This was my first time ice skating. This is my review of our fun trip in Sydney:

We went on an 8 hour drive down from Byron all the way to Sydney, we stopped at petrol stations, toilets and a pub to have lunch. It was raining a lot and when we arrived at our hotel we were so happy except that the thing on the door that flashes green so you can enter had run out of battery. The person at reception told us in the morning to call them and they would bring maintenance. So in the morning my dad went downstairs and told reception about the door again. Reception said that maintenance was not available on Sundays and it was Sunday! We were so mad but then happy because the manager said she would give us a room upgrade!! We packed our things and moved up to level 6 from level 4. We walked into the room but it only had a double bed and no bed for me!!!!!!!!!! We were steaming mad but my mum was calm the whole time (partly).

So then we had to wait until later in the afternoon before we could move to a new room that had a bed for me. In the meantime while we were waiting, we went on with our plans to go to the MCA (museum of contemporary art) and the NAIDOC art fair at the overseas passenger terminal. We bought some incredible fabrics, clothes, bush medicine and earrings + watched the Wagana Dancers. We ate lunch at the MCA before heading back to our new room. This room was perfect so we stayed in it for the rest of our trip.

The next day I was super excited because I would get to see my best friend who I haven’t seen in 8 months. Me and my mum went downstairs to wait for my BFF Eloise. I saw her car pull up and saw her face and we both became super excited, we hugged and talked and were so glad to see each other. My mum, me and Eloise went to the Chinese gardens and had so much fun walking around seeing the big fish, plants and temples. After that we headed off in the car so my mum could buy a pair of shoes for herself. Me and Eloise got to try on the high heels, I got to try on a black pair of high heels that matched so perfectly with my outfit. Then we stopped at Vinnies to browse and look around. Eloise had 20 dollars to spend so she bought some clip-on earrings and a handbag + bought me a new pair of sunnies! After that we drove to the tram sheds to meet Eloise’s mum for lunch. After lunch Eloise’s mum took us to her house and had tea with my mum. Me and Eloise played a game of monopoly and talked about how excited we were to be together. After my mum left we had a bath and dinner + afterwards watched a movie before bed.

The next morning me and Eloise played monopoly nonstop the whole day and got the news that we’d get another sleepover! We had a bath and got ready for bed and the next day said our goodbyes. Me and my mum walked up to the hotel room and I played on the ipad for a while. My mum texted Eloise’s mum to see if Eloise would like to have a play at the hotel and she said yes! When we picked Eloise up from her parent’s office we were so excited to see each other again! Me, Eloise and my dad walked to a games store in the city and bought the Sydney edition of monopoly. We played one game and I won! Then we went to the gym for a workout, then had to say our proper goodbyes.

The next day was Thursday and I met up with two of my friends Sinead and Ava, to go to the maritime museum. We went in the submarine, explored the ship and had lunch near the sea. Once we had finished at the museum me and my family left and got to go on a ferris wheel and see the ocean up high and these strange ladies on stilts + it was so much fun.

The next day was the last day of our trip. I got to meet up with another one of my friends Tilda at the Chinese gardens to have lunch. We gave the big fish at the Chinese gardens funny names like Golden, Savage, Rainbow and Marble. After that we got to go ice skating and it was my first time! But it was so much fun and in the end I could ice skate (partly). The next day we headed back to Byron to our home and to our bunny Kombucha. When we arrived our sneaky bunny was on the coffee table but looked so cute and camouflaged.

I hope you enjoyed my review of our trip to Sydney, down below are pictures we took on the journey!
